POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sr. Aquatic Director the Assistant Aquatic Director is responsible for assisting in planning, organizing, directing, budgeting, and evaluating aquatic programs in accordance with the YMCA's mission and policies. This role includes supervising staff, ensuring safety standards, and maintaining high-quality member-focused programs.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree is preferred.  
  • One to two years’ related experience preferred.
  • Completion of Lifeguard Certification, CPR/AED training.  
  • Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of YMCA aquatic trends and best practices.

   

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Enforces policies and procedures as required.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment. Assesses the aquatic area for risks and makes recommendations to ensure a safe environment.   
  • Assures that facilities, supplies, and equipment are maintained and in good working order.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of aquatic programs.
  • Schedule and supervise lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Fulfill Lifeguard and swim instruction roles as needed.
  • Assist with ensuring all staff are trained in safety and quality standards.
  • Maintain records for program evaluation and reporting.
  • Fulfill coaching role within the competitive swimming team (if applicable).
  • Provide excellent member service and engage with members to understand their goals and enhance their experience.
  • Assist in ordering equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with implementing special events related to the Aquatic Department.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions and to supervise program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations (depending upon the programs).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develops, directs and supervises program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives (see detailed list below).
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  3. Establishes new program activities and expands programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  4. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information, may organize and schedule program registrations. 
  5. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  6. Develops and monitors program budget to meet fiscal objectives.
  7. Coordinates use of facilities for program activities and events.
  8. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  9. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  10. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in programs. 
  11. Prepares monthly Board Reports regarding all areas of responsibility.  This would include enrollments and brief summaries of the various programs.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC DUTIES
Before and After School Fun Club

  • Manages, directs and coordinates the school age child care programs for assigned locations.
  • Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.
  • Facilitates high quality programming and establishes new program activities. 
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. 
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance. 
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. 
  • Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. 
  • Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. 
  • Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  • Maintains proper records/department files.
  • Organizes special events for parents. 
  • Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

Summer Fun Club

  • Under the direction of the SYD, support the preparation and planning of Summer Fun Club.
  • Provide assistance with the overall supervision and implementation of Summer Fun Club.
  • Functions as a Lead Counselor.

SAM’s Programming

  • Actively recruits qualified youth for membership into the YMCA’s Sam's program.
  • Organizes and oversees program activities and events.
  • Recruits and coordinates volunteers from the local community.
  • Actively involved with annual fund raising efforts and grant proposals.
  • In cooperation with the YMCA's Social Responsibility Committee, establishes the activities schedule for the YMCA's Tuesday Night Sam's Program.  This includes:
    • Recruitment and registration of qualified youth.
    • Recruits and trains volunteers and paid staff for the Tuesday Night Sam's Program.
    • Maintains current job descriptions for the Tuesday Night Sam's program staff.
    • Coordinates and personally implements the Tuesday Night Sam's activities October through April each year.
    • Coordinate and confirm YMCA transportation for Tuesday night program.
    • Organizes and coordinates the annual Sam’s Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas parties for the Sam’s Tuesday Night participants.
    • Secures facilities for program activities and events.
  • In cooperation with the YMCA's Social Responsibility Committee, coordinates and directs the Sam's Summer Day Camp. This includes:
    • Recruitment and registration of campers.
    • Staffing, training and scheduling the camp counselors for Sam's Camp.    
    • Maintaining current job descriptions for the Sam's Camp counselors.
    • Develops written promotional information for the Sam's Camp.
    • Creates and schedules all camp sessions and activities.
    • Coordinate and confirm YMCA transportation to and from camp as well as field trips.
    • Develops and implements the Sam’s Camp curriculum, to include Christian Education, cultural, educational and artistic developmental activities
    • Secures facilities and admission for camp field trips and events
    • Purchases and maintains supplies for camp activities. 
    • Maintain daily feeding counts.
      Monitors daily camp operations to adhere to health and safety regulations.

Effect on End Results

  1. The Youth Director will develop and actively direct YMCA sports and fitness programming for youth while engaging family to promote a community environment.
  2. The Youth Director will provide a well-rounded curriculum of Teen programs while establishing mentoring relationships that enhance a growing positive inclusive environment.
  3. The Youth Director will provide a well-rounded curriculum of programs and developmental activities for the SAM’s children and for the underserved youth and families in the YMCA community.
  4. The Incumbent will establish mentoring relationships with the YMCA Sam’s Members, volunteers, and with collaborating service agencies of the underserved population.
  5. The incumbent will maintain fiscal responsibility and satisfy budgetary guidelines to support the best interest of the YMCA.
  6. The incumbent will uphold all of the principles and goals of the Chambersburg YMCA’s mission statement for members and the community.

Rock Steady Boxing is a health and wellness program designed for people with Parkinson’s, a neurological condition affecting balance, strength, walking, and especially confidence. It’s based on non-contact boxing, which has proven very effective in improving all the symptoms people experience with this disease. The Parkinson’s Foundation has been recognized Rock Steady Boxing as one of three Accredited Exercise Education programs. It has grown into a thriving international nonprofit organization with more than 840 affiliates. Rock Steady Boxing Coach responsibilities:

  • Comply with the Rock Steady Boxings Affiliates established guidelines.
  • Design classes that incorporate the current “Plan of the Week”, the space and equipment available and the individual levels of each boxer.
  • Determine the limitations and abilities of each boxer by evaluating both their Parkinson symptoms and their overall health and fitness status.
  • Offer encouragement, motivation, discipline and hope

Prerequisites for applying to be Rock Steady Boxing Coach:

  • The trainee must hold ONE of the following:
    • a medical professional license OR
    • an NCCA-certified fitness professional or equivalent certification OR
    • a degree in an exercise science-related field 
  • Training:  10-hour Rock Steady Boxing online training 
    • Additional Recertification every 2 years
  • Available to work 4-5 hours per week
    • Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30PM - 4:45PM 
    • Other class times may be available
  • Ability to have FUN!
  • No previous boxing experience necessary

The Y is hiring part-time staff for its Before & After School program for the 2023 - 2024 school year. The staff supervises youth, as well as helps with homework, organizes gym games and plans activities for K-5 children. Applicants preferably have experience with children, but those working on degrees in education are encouraged to apply!

The hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Applicants can work all shifts or whichever shifts correspond with their schedules.

The Chambersburg YMCA is seeking part-time Before and After School Site Directors to work with elementary aged youth. Site Directors develop, manage, supervise, and direct the operations of a School Age Child Care location. This program provides homework assistance, recreation, arts and crafts, and other engaging activities while maintaining a safe environment for youth. Site Directors focus on the development of every child while promoting and modeling the values of the YMCA. Great opportunity for those interested in education, human services, and youth development.

Applicants must have experience supervising children. Those with degrees in education or related fields are encouraged to apply!

Program hours are typically Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. and 3:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some planning time is included in this position.

Welcome Center Representative

The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is seeking an energetic part-time Welcome Center Representative.  This position requires you to be able to work various hours Monday through Sunday.

Position Summary:

The Welcome Center Representative will represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA.  The Representative will provide membership information and enroll new members, provide program registration and information, direct incoming phone calls, regulate lobby activity, and provide excellent member service by exceeding member’s expectations.

The Chambersburg YMCA ARK Child Development Center is seeking qualified lead teacher applicants.  Part-time and substitute positions are also available.  A high school diploma and experience working with children or education in child development, early education, or a related field are required.

Position Overview: The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is seeking dedicated, caring, and professional bus drivers to transport youth for various programs including Before and After School, gym and aquatic programs, and field trips. Drivers are responsible for safely transporting the children in accordance with PA Department of Motor Vehicle Regulations.
 
Qualifications:
• High school diploma is required.
• Experience working with children and youth is preferred.
• Current CDL (Commercial Drivers License) with School Bus and Passenger endorsements
