Investing in the Safety of our YOUTH
The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA has a long-standing commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of the children and youth we serve. As part of this commitment, we are excited to announce that we are pursuing Praesidium Accreditation. Praesidium is a leader in abuse risk management and has worked globally for more than 30 years with thousands of organizations across various industries to help them assess, prevent, and respond to the sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults.
Praesidium Accreditation is a standardized, consistent, and objective process that allows organizations to publicly demonstrate their commitment to abuse prevention by meeting or exceeding established standards. We anticipate that achieving accreditation will take approximately one year and will involve multiple phases designed to take a broader and deeper look at our prevention systems and the surrounding culture. Once achieved, Praesidium Accreditation is valid for a three-year period, during which our team will have additional expectations to meet.
We recognize that this process will require an investment of resources and involve important decisions along the way. Please know that our entire leadership is committed to this process and to raising the bar to ensure we safeguard the most vulnerable and maintain this commitment for years to come.
The Chambersburg Memorial YMCA is proud to announce that Chris Misner has become a Certified Praesidium Guardian. Chris serves as the Senior Youth Director, overseeing all youth department programming as well as other leadership responsibilities throughout the Y operations. Chris participated in and successfully completed the challenging requirements of the Praesidium Guardian Certification workshop in October 2024. She now also serves as the team leader guiding us through the process of accreditation.
